Mediteraneo Restaurant
Miami Awning Co., Miami, Fla., United States
This custom canopy for a poolside restaurant was designed to match architectural elements on the existing property. It measures 60′ in length and 44′ in width.
The five-star resort needed to replace a canopy that was blown away by a hurricane. The client contacted our company because it saw how other projects we completed had fared during a hurricane. The resort wanted its patrons to enjoy the beautiful vistas of the Caribbean in comfort year-round. The vented canopy captures the tropical breeze and allows the dispensation of heat, so patrons are comfortable no matter what time of year.
The challenge was to design and engineer a canopy that would be luxurious, ship and install easily, and handle the weather. The entire project was fabricated on the U.S. mainland and designed to fit into shipping containers. A specially engineered custom bridge truss was used at the center of the canopy, with special trusses designed to connect into the bridge. The entire project was fabricated out of Schedule 40 pipe and engineered to 110 mph winds. Innovative construction methods were used to measure, design and fabricate the canopy so installation would problem-free.
Specially designed arched panels were designed and fabricated to hide posts and roll-up curtains around the entire perimeter of the canopy. The curtains come down easily for shade or in the event of inclement weather. Fabric swags made from Sunbrella® and Sunbrella View add the color and texture used throughout the resort to create a striking ceiling feature.
This beautiful project is made up of many different fabric architectural products. A custom commercial canopy was designed to enhance the five star resort's restaurant dining area. Guests can enjoy the scenic views and breezes and be protected from the elements. Columns are encased with special custom paneled trusses and wrapped in fabric. Special roll-down curtains provide protection from sun as well as rain when lowered and are concealed when retracted. Colors were picked to match those used throughout the resort. Special swags were installed in the interior to create an open air ceiling liner. The entire project was designed and fabricated in the U.S.A. Canopy was shipped to the job site and installed by Miami Awning Company crews.
