Commercial Lean-to Awnings

Coconut Grove, Florida

 

This project entails a total building renovation in the charming Coconut Grove area. Previously, barrel shaped awnings were on the entire façade of the building; making it look old and dated now. The client wanted to totally redesign the building to make an entirely new façade and that included updating the awnings. Their goal was to renovate and create a cultural hub in this main street of Coconut Grove. For the building they wanted to have a mix of local business and keep with the artistic fabric of the community. They wanted the building and awnings to be new, modern and artistic.

(12) New stationary awnings of various sizes were designed for the building’s east, north and west facades. The awnings were fabricated with Natura in: Black, Navy and Digital White. Custom stripes were made to go vertically or horizontally. The color patterns vary for each awning. Each awning has an 8” wrap around valance in black Natura, for signage now or in the future. By creating the custom stripes, the awnings are more artistic, but this also ensures that the colors of the stripes will not fade as quickly. This is an important feature in the tropical climate of the region. Innovative construction methods were used to measure, design and fabricate the awnings so that installation would be able to be quickly accomplished.

Although these look like they are simple awnings, they have many special features. For the frame structure, special telescoping brackets had to be made, as the distance to the wall varies throughout the structure. The architect wanted custom stripes that would run, either vertically or horizontally. For each awning there was a variation of color patterns, whether this is horizontal or vertical. To achieve this extremely accurate measurements and special attention to detail would be necessary.

The building looks totally different from the way it looked before. It was featured in the local newspaper and online. This building renovation has really shown how awnings add to the character and charm of a neighborhood. The use of the new awnings have updated the look of this main corner of the community. The awnings also provide protection from the rain and UV protection for the retail merchants. These awnings have helped to make this dated building look new, dynamic and fresh.

1 Hotel Cabanas

1 Hotel - Custom Cabanas

As a part of the remodel of the entire 1 Hotel, the owner wanted to create spaces that connect with nature and are an extension of the beautiful ocean shoreline. They wanted to create a place that is non-artificial with natural materials and textures, so one would feel at home with no room for stress. To achieve this they really wanted to have various styles of cabanas by all of the pool areas that would be special and serene.

Multiple pool decks were remodeled and the client wanted very special cabanas for the various areas. A total of 21 structures were fabricated and installed. (8) Pool deck cabanas with manually retractable Sunsure mesh tops. (6) lower mezzanine cabana roofs with gutter systems. (7) Roof top cabanas on the roof top pool deck. The lower mezzanine and roof top cabanas were made with Natura Digital White fabric.

The roof top cabanas are on the roof or 16th floor of the hotel. Bringing those structures to the top entailed special coordination of installers and crane services. Special care and “white glove” service was used to finish all of the cabanas!

This hotel/resort's guests can take a break and relax in cabanas throughout the resort. The cabanas on the main deck provide areas where guests can relax and enjoy the view, while still being close to the pool for a day of fun. The South pool deck cabanas offer guests intimate areas to relax or come together with friends and family close to the beach. The Roof top pool cabanas really offer areas for relaxation, tranquility and comfort. All of these nature inspired cabanas, create spaces for hotel guests to really relax and enjoy themselves, either alone or with friends and family. They also provide gorgeous views, along with shade and UV protection from the sun and other elements. These special cabanas make you just want to stay and relax; the purpose they were made for.

Miami Seaquarium – Penguin Isles Canopy

Custom Design Canopies

Miami Seaquarium was creating a new exhibit for their newest members, African Penguins, at the new Penguin Isle. They wanted a framed fabric structure that would have design appeal and attract the public also providing protection from the hot tropical sun for both the penguins and visitors. This project features a set of custom engineered canopies for the new Penguin Isle exhibit for the Miami Seaquarium. The canopies are designed to provide protection for the new penguin habitat that has a 800 sq. ft. tank with a rocky dry area and an adjoining 9,000 gallon pool. The canopies are covered with Ferrari 502 Lagoon Blue and made with schedule 40 galvanized steel.

The penguins and keepers are extremely pleased and satisfied with the new shade. The canopies make for an attractive exhibit, provide the penguins and visitors with the needed shelter and make an environment that is both educational and stimulating. This really allows guests to enjoy interacting with the penguins. The client is looking forward to recreating this design concept for future canopy projects.

The Ritz Carlton Key Biscayne Ballroom Patio

 

The Ritz Carlton Key Biscayne - Custom Retractable Canopy

This project features a very special set of large retractable canopies for The Ritz Carlton Key Biscayne. The client has a patio area off of the Grand Ballroom that overlooks the grounds leading to the Atlantic Ocean. It is contracted for outdoor weddings and events and previously needed to have a back-up tent rental in the case of inclement weather. This was always an extra cost and add-on; another thing for event planners to deal with, as well as very cumbersome. These beautiful retractable canopies were designed to replace the rental tents, so that at the touch of the remote, the space can now be transformed with overhead coverage for rain or heat. Drop down screens, also keep out blowing rain, cut down wind and keep out insects.

A custom combination of three B-Space Corradi units were constructed for a combined length of 114’-0” x 24’-9”. This is installed over the Grand Ballroom Patio area. It includes a rigid frame buildout from the building at the left side to meet the back of the Corradi unit, extending to the far outside of the patio. The project also includes 12 Titan Screen drop down screens around the perimeter of the front and sides.

This resort hotel is always very busy, so the project had to be installed within a 10 day window. This was done in phases and quickly installed around events. Now the ballroom patio area is functional with an additional large area that is good during sunshine, rain or beautiful moonlit nights. They now have total flexibility. There are no more problems with the storage of tents and the manpower needed to assemble and disassemble them. The ballroom retractable canopies for The Ritz Carlton are attractive and distinctive; allowing all sorts of décor for weddings and events throughout the year.

Private Residential Carport

Private Residential Carport

This client wanted a unique and distinctively designed carport to cover his luxury car. It needed to protect his car against the elements. He also desired that it would work well with the architectural elements of his home. We created a carport with the features that the client wanted.
The entire lower framework was fabricated to be transported and installed in just one piece and so was the top portion of the carport. Gorgeous Natura fabric was used for the top of the custom carport. Side panels are made of Awntex mesh to provide protection from the elements. The back of the carport is open and the front of the carport is open, but can be closed off with a matching Awntex mesh retractable screen.

Our customer now has a unique and distinctive custom carport. It protects his car from the intense sunlight, frequent rain of South Florida and matches the architecture of his home.

 

Grill on the Alley

Commercial Restaurant Freestanding Structures

Aventura, Florida

 

This project is a combination of 5 various free standing pyramid structures.

The client has a thriving well known restaurant that features indoor and outdoor seating. They wanted to create two areas for outdoor seating, one for smoking and one for non-smoking. The client desired to use outdoor umbrellas, but wanted something that wouldn’t need to be worried about when winds would pick up. The solution for this application was custom non-collapsible engineered fabric structures with the look of umbrellas.

The cupolas in the structures provide ventilation to keep the areas under the structures cool throughout the day. The bronze paint finish completes the traditional look that ties in with the décor of the steakhouse. Sunbrella natural fabric completes the look of a traditional Classic American Grill.

This client likes to keep up with the latest trends and provide exciting menus and venues throughout the year for their patrons. The client is pleased to now be able to offer outdoor seating that they do not have to worry about. The fabric structures provide the perfect setting for private cocktails and appetizers on the outdoor sofas or areas with dining tables. They also provide an area perfect for outdoor receptions and events.
