Custom Retractable Canopy

Grand Cayman, Cayman Islands

 

The Client

This client has two patio areas overlooking the water off of the dining room of David’s Deep Blue Restaurant, there at the Morritt’s Resort. The restaurant is right on the water, with breath taking views overlooking the Caribbean Sea. This area is used throughout the year for outdoor breakfasts, dining and special events. Located in Grand Cayman, Cayman Islands, in the Tropics; the client needed sun and weather protection so their guests could still enjoy eating alfresco anytime.

The Canopy

This project features a custom Corradi B-Space retractable canopy that is installed over the right outside veranda area of David’s Deep Blue Restaurant at the Morritt’s Resort, in Grand Cayman. The frame structure, components and fabric are all white including White Eclissi fabric. Special Pergotenda lights are pre-wired throughout this canopy. They are for outdoor use and come with 4 pre-set intensity levels and dimmer. They are perfectly integrated with the retractable canopy system.

The Outcome

This custom retractable canopy transformed the outdoor veranda area into just what the client needed and wanted. The area is now usable throughout the year. Guests can enjoy the breath taking views without the intense heat of the sun. Special occasions and events booked at the restaurant do not have to be cancelled, because bookings can be kept rain or shine. The restaurant now has total flexibility to open or close the canopy at the touch of a button. Guests will make memories and enjoy their vacation in a “Piece of Paradise”. This retractable system was the perfect solution for the resort's casual, yet elegant atmosphere. They love it so much, they ordered another canopy for the other patio space to the left!

Sugarcane Restaurant

Custom Retractable Canopy

The Client

For this project we got to work with the hip, Miami Midtown restaurant, Sugarcane. The restaurant has a great outdoor patio area for outdoor seating and a bar. The patio is covered with a very large wooden trellis over 100 feet long and projects 18’-4”, but it would lose revenue and customers whenever there would be rain, which is quite often during certain months of the year. They wanted a Weather and Shade solution that would give them the flexibility to open up the area when the weather was great or cover it when it would be too hot or rainy.

The Canopy

This project consists of multiple Iridium retractable canopy units installed over the patio area of a very popular restaurant. There are six sets of retractable canopies installed over the existing trellis of an outdoor restaurant patio. The fabric used for the project is Soltis W96 White. Soltis is translucent and allows for good light transmission during the day. The awning is calibrated to retract automatically if wind speeds are in excess of 30 mph.

The Outcome

The owner and staff love how the new retractable canopies provided the solution that they needed for their restaurant. Now they are able to use their outdoor bar and patio throughout the year, rain or shine. With their new retractable canopies, staff are able to leave some areas open to take advantage of great breezes and beautiful sky. The canopies make guests feel welcome, still giving a sense of openness and contribute to an unforgettable experience. Their outdoor area has always been a great choice for celebrating or relaxing with friends. With the canopies, now it can be any time of the year!

Large Custom Canopy

The Client

Our client was debuting a new restaurant in the vibrant Midtown Miami area. There was an extensive patio area they wanted to utilize to create an outdoor seating area and bar, creating an exciting place that would draw customers from the neighborhood and also provide shade and weather protection from the heat and rain.

The Canopy

This project consists of a very large custom outdoor patio lean-to style canopy for the newest Tap 42 Restaurant and Bar in Midtown Miami. The canopy is located over the outside patio seating area and bar at street level. Unlike the traditional fabric awning structural design, the project was designed using a tubular structure. All of the fabric attachment was concealed as best as possible to provide a seamless transition between the fabric and the structure. The structure is not just rectangular in shape, but was designed to conform to the existing contours of the building.

The Outcome

Our client is extremely satisfied with the final end product! The opening debut and their new location is a success! The various large structural elements of the canopy were utilized for other features of the restaurant needed, such as mounts for large screen tv’s, speakers, ceiling fans and fire sprinklers. The new canopy covers the outdoor patio and bar and really has been what they needed with all of the extensive rain that the area has experienced. The canopy has contributed to making a great space for lunch, social gatherings, and patio dining throughout the day.

Biscayne Bay Yacht Club

Custom Awning

The Client

This client had individual awnings over the east elevation of the building that were not aesthetically appealing and in very bad shape. They wanted weather and shade protection for those dining inside. They also wanted something totally different. This project consists of one long continuous awning that highlights the arches of a historic building for the Biscayne Yacht Club on Bayshore Drive in Miami, FL.

The Awning

The awnings were custom designed to follow the arches of the building’s façade. The frame work was very custom, as well as the fabric to follow the arches, since the middle arch was different from the other two arches on each side.  The anchorage needed to bolt into a coral rock structure that is very close by the water.  Special adhesive chemical anchors were used to anchor the awnings to the wall.  There are also ceiling liners covering the undersides of portions of the long awning that cover the framework of the awning. The fabric used is Sunbrella Firesist Regatta Blue.

The Outcome

The clients are extremely pleased with the new awnings. This is a historic building, on the bay with a beautiful setting that is used for sailing and social events. Located on beautiful Biscayne Bay, a lot of sailing and social events as well as weddings are scheduled throughout the year. The new awnings give the illusion of waves and blends well with the architecture of the structure. The selection of Regatta blue by Sunbrella Firesist highlights that they are a Yacht Club. One of the members is architect C. Frasuer Knight, a member of the Biscayne Bay Yacht Club since the 1940’s. These awnings are the something different that they wanted for the Club.

1 Hotel Cabanas

1 Hotel - Custom Cabanas

Miami Beach, Florida

 

As a part of the remodel of the entire 1 Hotel, the owner wanted to create spaces that connect with nature and are an extension of the beautiful ocean shoreline. They wanted to create a place that is non-artificial with natural materials and textures, so one would feel at home with no room for stress. To achieve this they really wanted to have various styles of cabanas by all of the pool areas that would be special and serene.

Multiple pool decks were remodeled and the client wanted very special cabanas for the various areas. A total of 21 structures were fabricated and installed. (8) Pool deck cabanas with manually retractable Sunsure mesh tops. (6) lower mezzanine cabana roofs with gutter systems. (7) Roof top cabanas on the roof top pool deck. The lower mezzanine and roof top cabanas were made with Natura Digital White fabric.

The roof top cabanas are on the roof or 16th floor of the hotel. Bringing those structures to the top entailed special coordination of installers and crane services. Special care and “white glove” service was used to finish all of the cabanas!

This hotel/resort's guests can take a break and relax in cabanas throughout the resort. The cabanas on the main deck provide areas where guests can relax and enjoy the view, while still being close to the pool for a day of fun. The South pool deck cabanas offer guests intimate areas to relax or come together with friends and family close to the beach. The Roof top pool cabanas really offer areas for relaxation, tranquility and comfort. All of these nature inspired cabanas, create spaces for hotel guests to really relax and enjoy themselves, either alone or with friends and family. They also provide gorgeous views, along with shade and UV protection from the sun and other elements. These special cabanas make you just want to stay and relax; the purpose they were made for.

Kaluz Restaurant

Commercial Restractable Restuarant Awnings

Ft. Lauderdale, Florida

 

The client has an exceptional waterfront restaurant featuring indoor and outdoor dining. They have the perfect waterfront location, but really needed shade and weather protection for this area. They wanted something retractable that would be large enough to cover the area, fit well with their modern architecture and be strong enough for waterfront breezes.

This project features (3) Stobag retractable awnings for the patio area of an exceptional waterfront restaurant. A special roof structure support was made to attach the Stobag Jumbo to the Bar building. This was mounted on the rooftop structure with a protective hood. The two other retractable awnings were attached under existing frame structures. The fabric needed to be pulled back and support members had to be welded in to support the retractable awning units. The remote controlled motorized awnings make it easy for the client to adjust the awnings to how far they would like the awnings to project.

Day or night these retractable awnings have really enhanced the outside space for great meeting spaces, happy hours, lunches, special occasions or dinners alfresco. The retractable awnings add style and shade and provide coverage for when the sun is at its hottest or when it is raining. The awnings truly enhance this beautiful restaurant’s setting, creating a wonderful hot spot in the neighborhood. They provide protection from rain, as well as UV protection too.
